Says by the critique….
1. I love
the Flexibility.
I am self-employed with my
own business, which means I have ultimate flexibility of when and where I do the work, as long as I get it done in time. I
sometimes work at home, sometimes at other offices, and sometimes at Blenz Cafe (you can read a post about that here actually). Compared to my times at my old corporate job, I am able to leave on vacations or
go places whenever I want to with very little restrictions. “Yo Jeff, wanna go to Whistler this evening? Let’s
stay for a few days.” - “OK, sure! Come pick me up.”
2. I love
the sense of accomplishment after completing a large task.
When I get those large, complicated
coding projects (E-Commerce scale, or online quiz modules, etc - my portfolio is available at this page), the sense of accomplishment that comes after the job has been completed is great.
3. I love
the dynamic side of it.
There’s always new innovative
ways to do things better, faster, and more secure. It’s a learning process that never stops, and it keeps my mind sharp.
Even in the last few months alone I learned how to use Ajax, advanced CSS positioning, blogging (using Wordpress) and much
more. And it keeps going on. It’s an endless growth.
4. I love
how I can make a big difference with what I do for somebody else’s business.
Another thing I could not stand
about my corporate job back in the days was that I couldn’t make a big difference. Although I had brilliant opinions
and ideas for making the business flow better and more efficient, they could never be implemented due to corporate bureaucracy,
and due to the fact that it was already set up that way (the bad way) and changing it would cost too much resources. With
this job, each project I do makes a big impact on my client’s business prospectives. I’ve always loved the responsibility.
5. I love
the creativity I can assert.
It’s a job where I can
use my creative mind, and everything is more open-ended compared to any other jobs one could have. The sense of freedom is
outstanding. Of course the ultimate decisions are up to the clients (most of the time) but I still have a lot of sway in it.
And I’m a control freak. What can I say?
